CruiseMates' E-newsletter came to the point today and also promises a fuller report on its website:
"Two weeks ago, I was fooled by an interview I conducted with a representative from Windjammer cruises, Susan Burke The fact is, I asked her pointed questions about the company's assets, liabilies and plans the company had to find financial footing to keep it afloat. In the end, it turned out that she was misrepresenting the facts to me, if not outright 'lying.' In my book, the omission of critical information is just as egregious as giving someone misinformation.
"It turns out that the company is as close to bankruptcy as I have ever seen a company, and all indications are it is just a matter of time before that is a reality. The odd thing is that they refuse to admit it. Frankly, I have seen Windjammer say one thing and then turn around and do the opposite so many times now that I personally don't believe anything they have to say anymore."
I read that cruisemates story. It's on http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/feature/windjammerpt1-111607.cfm and it's like a soap opera. - A Sad Florida Sailor

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your blog. It has helped so much with Windjammer. I finally got a full credit for a cruise that was not going to materialize. My credit card worked closely with me in getting a refund. I am not sure where the money came from but I have gotten full credit and was informed that from my standpoint, it is a closed matter.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to go into all the details as I know you have heard them a thousand times because they are much the same for many of us.
But, what is really bothersome is Windjammer's ability to continue operating and taking money when they are not running cruises. It seems like their license to operate all aspects of that business should be revoked. I now understand the many companies that were formed under the Burke corporate umbrella. I have been reading the Cruise Message board and it has been very educational. I am beginning to understand some of the offshore aspects of the business.
Where are they licensed to do business and who regulates them? That would be useful information and I am sure a host of folks would like to write some complaint letters. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks for sharing your insight and thoughts. This is how I uncovered the problem from the start. I'm sorry for all those stranded folks and glad I was not one, at least not any more.
